NOMAD Youth & Community project is an active local charity based in Henley on Thames on the border with Berkshire and Buckinghamshire that supports children, young people and families at grass roots level. We provide support for those facing challenging situations in their lives and seek to work collaboratively with other organisations and agencies through delivering positive and individually tailored programs of support.
Known more for being a picturesque market town famous for its annual regatta and as one of the more expensive places to live in England, questions are often asked about why Henley would need such a project?
The comparative wealth of the area can easily mask the needs leaving many people feeling isolated, lonely and unheard.

We aim to help people to become full and useful members of our local community and society as a whole by working with them and other appropriate agencies to improve the conditions of their lives including their physical, mental and spiritual capacities.
Help people make good and informed choices in all aspects of their lives, particularly in the areas of education, health, training, employment, finances, independent, recreation and relationships.

Making a difference

The  weekly sessions my son has with NOMAD have proved invaluable.  For a teenage boy, having 1:1 with an adult male, in need of  a role model, as he is living with very challenging
circumstances, has an immeasurable beneficial effect. My son comes home in a more relaxed state having had quality time with Tim, who listens if needed, or just ‘hangs out’ providing a safe space.

NOMAD are at the end of the phone or email to listen to concerns and to be available  when any parenting advice is needed. I have found this to be invaluable as when dealing with very challenging situations it is easy to take one’s eye of the everyday stuff that also needs addressing.

NOMAD's patient, non-judgemental support is really a huge blessing to my family and we are genuinely truly grateful
for it.
NOMAD have been an incredible support to one of the families that I am working with. They have a flexible and friendly approach, nothing is too much trouble and are willing to help in any way they can. They have made such a difference to the family that I am working with, they have provided both emotional and practical support. It has been a pleasure working with members of the Nomad team and they are an invaluable resource for families in need within the Henley area.
-Social Worker

I have been volunteering with the family support courses and the literacy programme for several years now and find it very challenging and rewarding.

I love being a part (however small) of the NOMAD team, supporting Tim and his dedicated team of workers with the vital family work they carry out

Professional Approach

As a school, we find NOMAD's support invaluable. We directly commission mentoring work which provides regular support for young people who struggle at school. The approach from the youth workers is professional, but different from what we can offer as a school. NOMAD supplements this work with their own resources. They also provide opportunities for young people to participate in constructive out of school activities, such as football and trips during the holidays.

Also invaluable is the parenting supoort NOMAD provides. NOMAD's staff then work in partnership with us to try and secure better outcomes for young people
